At least eight people have been killed in Kabul after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a supermarket.
Five foreigners and a child were said to be among the dead at the Finest store. Fifteen others were wounded.The attack happened in the heart of a heavily-guarded district of the Afghan capital that is home to many diplomats and Westerners.
The US Embassy in Kabul condemned what it described as a senseless act. It denied reports two Americans were among those killed.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack via a text message sent to reporters.
They said they were targeting an employee of the US security contractor formerly known as Blackwater.

Mary Hayden, a Western consultant who was inside the store said: "To my left, I heard a gunshot. A bomb went off. Everyone was running to the back of the building."Afghan President Hamid Karzai said: "The enemies of Afghanistan are so desperate they are now killing civilians, including women, inside a food market."
The attack was the latest in a series in Kabul.
On January 12 a suicide bomber on a motorbike smashed into a minibus carrying Afghan intelligence service employees. Several were killed and more than 30 wounded.
