Stonehenge: Twin Site Unearthed

Scientists say they have made the most important discovery at Stonehenge for 50 years. A wooden 'twin' of the famous site has been found some 900m from the stones. This is an artist's impression of how it looked.

A ground-penetrating radar image shows a circular ditch containing 22 holes from wooden posts that have long rotted away.

Inside the circle are the remains of a burial barrow, which appeared much later and may have been excavated in the early 1900s. This image shows the site of the ditches (grey), post holes (yellow) and barrow (blue).
